A Sustainable Wedding and How to Have One
Sustainable weddings are on the rise because as much as your wedding is one of the happiest days of your life, it can also be one of the most wasteful. Think of all the tossed away paper goods, decorations, flowers, and left-over food.
Considering that a wedding signals the start of a new life together with hopes for a happy future and that what you do now affects the future, it makes sense to start that future with a sustainable wedding. Sustainable weddings are green eco-friendly affairs that are sure to win you some good karma from mother nature.
We’re into wedding planning here at Dazzle (Events) by Andrea and we believe that when it comes to planning a sustainable wedding, it does not necessarily have to be harder than planning a regular one. Here are some tips from us on how to successfully pull off a sustainable wedding.
Invitations and Stationery
When it comes to sustainable weddings, reduction and recycling are key so try to reduce using paper as much as possible. Send as many E-invites as you can, try using a big screen instead of having to print many wedding programs and where you absolutely cannot avoid paper, use recycled ones.
Your Venue
A good sustainable wedding practice is to have your wedding and reception in the same place. That way you reduce the extra carbon emissions that would occur as you and your guests transport yourselves from your wedding ceremony to your reception.
Décor
When it comes to sustainable weddings, the best décor is vintage because, with vintage, you most likely would be reusing items.
Lighting
Solar lighting is a great option for your sustainable wedding. But where your hands are tied, why not go for energy-saving LED lights instead of the regular ones?
Flowers
Rather have to spend lots of money on importation of specific flowers for your wedding, go for local flowers that are in season and then find ways to reuse them after your wedding.
Food and Drinks
Choose local veggies that are in season for your wedding menu or ask your caterer for a purely organic foods menu. For drinks, go with local wineries and breweries too.
Again, when it comes to your sustainable wedding, the plan is to reduce as much as possible, avoid plastic, reuse and recycle.
